, an inch and a half. the next one looks to be even wetter. concord is 50 degrees right now. oakland, 53. santa rosa, 45. the bone-chilling temperatures we had earlier in the week will not return anytime soon, because the source of the next storm comes from more of a southerly location. that's a warmer direction. but it also has a potential to pack more moisture. here's what we expect. showers will end briefly tonight. more rain will spread south very early tomorrow. probably around 3 a.m., that next storm comes ashore. then storms and gusty winds are possible with with this next one. so just like this morning, a thunderstorm would not be a surprise. we'll go to hi-def doppler and take it up to the north bay. you can see those widely scattered showers right around 80. you go down the 680 corridor, not much. down in the south bay, the showers are spreading south to morgan hill. up around the city, pretty much high and dry. south of oakland, alameda, a few showers. widely scattered showers for now. not for long. low pressure is ushering in the next wave of rain. you can see it right off of

of the heaviest rain located in and around oakland and into the east bay where we see the yellow and red colors. that's where we have significant downpours and hydroplaining a problem on the roads for tonight and even minor flooding. for the south bay things not as bad. the rain has been relatively light so far today. it has picked up from time to time and we'll continue to see the rain through about 8:00 to 9:00. this is where the rain band will exit the bay area before it moves out to the east. live view right now, golden gate bridge and rain is really heavy right now. it is beginning to lighten up just a little bit as the back edge begins to move through. for tonight look for steady rain the next few hours. heavy at times, maybe even a thunderstorm and then off and on showers later this evening. for wednesday tomorrow the showers continue much of the day with clearing expected for the late afternoon hours and then for thursday, finally, dry weather and mostly sunny skies. here's future cast, 7:00 p.m. and the forecast model is putting the tail end of that main rain band i was just showing yo
reporter allen wong has more from oakland. >> as news of the tragedy in connecticut spread, so did a sense of insecurity in schools across the bay area. >> it reminded me to appreciate what i have and to draw my loved ones closer. >> in oakland city police officers were available for any schools to offer safety advice and a sense of reassurance. >> it is totally wrong. because like they are killing little kids. >> in union city the school district will have the first ever active shooter drill next march. officials are keenly aware of how this tragedy might affect younger students. >> with younger children it's a fire drill like earthquake drill like maneuver where you are reassuring your children and moving the children around. >> district psychologists were coaching faculty members on how to spot signs of distress in kids and how to respond when they come back next week. >> let them know every once in a while this kind of thing does happen but it rarely happens and there are adults there that they can go to when they are feeling afraid. >> in san francisco it was gut check time. school of
in the santa clara valley that's when it was really coming down. you can see by the oakland area, by skyline boulevard you have some light showers there. some showers down around san leandro we head out toward beach front boulevard near belmont. you see showers there. how about roson avenue getting heavy activity. at least toward campbell. but as we worked our way toward evergreen and san felipe road you see significant rainfall on these bands. you touch on here an we show you rainfall bands at .2 an hour. that's significant rain and you head down toward the corridor and gilroy. they were getting hammered for a time today this evening and now they're getting a little bit of a break. but the rain came down hot and heavy there. the santa cruz mountains they're getting a lot of rain and it's coming down fast. as it stands right now, the showers are starting to die down, the worse is over. it was a fast moving system and we're fortunate it is coming down fast. it could have caused bigger problems but it migrated through rapidly. i'm going to be talking about showers still lingering, we're going
